A WEEK IN THE LAND OF KHACHQARS

Day 1: Arrival in Yerevan and transfer to the hotel.

Day 2: City Tour

Visiting museums: Museum of History, Matenadaran - Institute of Ancient Manuscripts, Paradjanov Museum, etc.

 

Day 3: Yerevan - Ohanavank - Saghmosavank - Amberd - Dzoraget

Medieval monasteries Ohanavank and Saghmosavank (13th century) located along the canyon Kasakh; fortress Amberd (7th century) erected on a rocky promontory; Dzoraget.

 

Day 4: Dzoraget - Odzun - Sanahin - Haghpat - Akhtala - Dilijan

Odzoun basilica and the monument with two tomb steles (5th to 6th centuries), monasteries of Sanahin and Haghpat, World Heritage of UNESCO, fortress-monastery of Akhtala (10th century), town of Dilijan, beautiful resort and spa; Old Dilijan.

 

Day 5: Dilijan - Sevan - Noraduz - Noravank - Khor Virap - Yerevan

Lake Sevan (at 2000m); Peninsula with the monastery of Sevanavank (9th to 13th centuries), cemetery of Noradouz with 700 khachkars ("Cross Stone") Selim Caravanserai (14th century) Noravank Monastery (13th century), Monastery of Khor-Virap, first Christian monastery in Armenia.

 

Day 6: Yerevan - Echmiadzin - Zvartnots - Yerevan

Cathedral Echmiadzin, residence of Armenian Catholicos; ruins of the cathedral of Zvartnots (7th century), Museum and Memorial of the Armenian Genocide, Vernissage.

 

Day 7: Yerevan - Garni - Geghard - Yerevan

Cave monastery of Geghard (9th to 13th centuries), a UNESCO World Heritage pagan temple of Garni-a Hellenistic unique monument, Armenian Brandy Factory "Ararat", visit and wine degustation.

 

Day 8: Transfer to Zvartnots airport, departure.
